ABOUT
US
Thank you for your interest in Perkins Equine Therapy! I am Dr. Emily Perkins – physical therapist and equine enthusiast! I am the founder, owner and operator of Perkins Equine Therapy and this is my, very summarized, story...
Professionally, Dr. Perkins began her studies at Purdue University, earning a B.S. in Athletic Training with a minor in Psychology. She then went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The University of St Augustine for Health Sciences. Over the past twelve years, she has been practicing Physical Therapy in a variety of settings, amassing several post-graduate certifications, including those in manual therapy and dry needling.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Perkins began to see benefit in using these learned skills on her own horse. She decided to pursue this direction of physical therapy formally, allowing her to offer these services to the community. Dr. Perkins began the Certified Equine Rehab Practitioner program through University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Winter 2021. After successful completion of the on-line learning portion, she attended a week-long hands-on seminar to practice these techniques. She was awarded her CERP credentials in September 2022.
She now spends her time using her knowledge and experience as both a physical therapist and a horsewoman to bring out the best in both equine and equestrian athletes. When she is not in the barn, Dr. Perkins enjoys spending time with her husband, their three dogs, and visiting with family & friends as much as possible!
