No, but really....
Just do it. What’s so hard about that? I mean, you know you’re going to. You know you NEED to, so just – do it. Such is the internal monologue that plays over and over in my head on a regular basis.
Getting out of bed, getting in the shower, putting the laundry away… even
sitting here in the car service center, lap top fired up with to sole purpose for me to have uninterrupted “creative and writing time” and I still can’t get shit done.
It's amazing to me the disconnect that can exist between knowing what we should do and doing it. My therapist recently explained this phenomenon to me as competing voices. It has nothing to do with *knowing* the “right” thing to do, but it has to do with how loud your brain is telling you to do something. If you’re in a crowded room and 10 people are screaming, you won’t hear the 1 person whispering. Same with your brain it turns out.
If your subconscious is yelling at your to stay in bed, take a nap, you’re so tired, better do this fun thing first, how are you supposed to hear the quiet voice of motivation saying “write the blog, do the financial projections, schedule the marketing meeting.” I mean, who wants to work when they could play or sleep? I’m here to tell you, 9 times out of 10, it’s not me…
But that’s exactly what separates the average from the outstanding. The ability to quiet those yells and listen to that little whisper that says, “You should get up. You shoulder make that call. You not only should, but you CAN get shit done. So do it!” Listen to the whispers, get up, and get shit done! You’ll like where it gets you – I promise.
